About Linnahall

Built for the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics sailing events, this massive complex originally opened as the V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sports. Its brutalist, ziggurat-style design keeps sea views from the Old Town unobstructed.

The interior has been mostly abandoned since 2010. It houses a decaying 4,200-seat concert hall and a 3,000-seat ice rink. Christopher Nolan featured the space as the 'Kyiv Opera House' in his 2020 film Tenet. Read more about the Tenet Filming Location.

Today, the exterior stairs and rooftop terraces remain highly popular. Visitors climb the concrete steps for photography and wide views. Learn Directions & Transport before you go.
